Joseph Pearce

At the age of fourteen Joseph Pearce (b. 1951) discovered that his father was not British but a German of Jewish descent who had fled to England a year after the war broke out, and here assumed a new name and identity. A Fleming by birth but with an English name, Pearce incorporated his family history in his much-praised novels Koloniale waren and Maanzaad and in the autobiographical family chronicle Land van belofte.
